Well, 30 years is a very long time in the technology business. Well, we do expect to see some of the technology that comes from the movie The Matrix. This year, tablet computer such as the Apple Ipad and HP Slate PC. Tablet PC will fill in the gap between laptops and smartphones. Netbooks are not the correct solution.

It's possible that we will have transparent screens. There was one company called Samsung has introduced a prototype laptop computer with transparent monitor.

There could also another new tech will show up. The hologram screen. If it doesn't happen in the next 30 years. Then it might happen in 2050.

Microsoft might or may not develop a future Windows OS. But currently there is a non-Windows OS in development by Microsoft. It's called Midori and it would be a possible replacement to Windows.

I have read an article about Intel planning to develop a 40 or 48 core CPU.

Currently, Microsoft developed a tabletop computer called Microsoft Surface. It uses multi-touch technology. There will be more technology on how humans interact with computers such as speech and muscles.

Who know that new technology would show up that was before wasn't possible but it can be possible in the next 30 years. All we have to do is watch the news or look up in the internet.

For me, I dreamed of my own new desktop computer designs. My dream said that the DVD-drives and blu-ray drives will be small as the one in the blu-ray players. This can save a lot of space in the computer case. Smaller DVD-drives and blu-ray drives means you can install the power supply yourself with ease. I do want the desktop computer hard drives to be as small as a laptop's hard drive. So that it can be possible that you can install up to 3 or 4 hard drives in a desktop computer. For the CPU is to get smaller and have a new cooling tech that could be as cold as an air conditioner.

Well, you can ask me that because I know what is the future of computers. After I found out it cost an arm and a leg to expand it to use a printer (had to buy an expansion case), I switched to an Atari 800 about 1982. It got me through college writing engineering programs in Basic and doing word processing in a 40-column screen. I still had the Atari in 1986 when I got married. My new wife took one look at the Atari and said we had to get a real computer. That turned out to be a Tandy 1000 with a 8088 CPU, 64K of memory, two 5-1/4 floppy drives, and no hard drive. Yes, computers have come a long way. I've had a 386, a 486, and a 2.4GHz Pentium 4, each with ever increasing amounts of memory and disk space. Last week I put together my latest computer from parts ordered on the web. It's an Intel i7 920 with 6GB of memory and a 640GB hard drive for the OS plus additional hard drives for storage adding up to a couple of terabytes. But I still miss playing Shamus on the Atari 800.

My first computer was a TI99 about 1978. A 6 core cpu will be old school. heck a monitor might even be out of style.

i can't imagine what computers will be like in 30 years from now.
