A temporary data glitch briefly caused a number of Nasdaq-listed stocks, including Amazon, Apple and Microsoft, all to reset share prices to $123.47, causing confusion on trading desks.

Nasdaq says it is investigating how wildly inaccurate share-price information for a range of major USA tech stocks went live on large consumer information services, including Bloomberg's trading platform as well as Google Finance and Yahoo Finance.

The incorrect data was discovered on Google Finance and Yahoo Finance.

The swings came on a day that the US stock market closed early at 1:00 pm, on the eve of the US Independence Day holiday. Even the slightest of hiccups can set off a chain of events that cause an upset, as the global stock market discovered on Tuesday this week. "This is now being fixed and we hope to update our stock price data shortly". The test data originated from Nasdaq's Unlisted Trading Privileges (UTP) service. As a result, had you looked up Google parent Alphabet, you might have thought that the stock dropped 86% or $785.26. "Bloomberg and a few other providers improperly disseminated test data".
