  • Parents of terminally ill baby Charlie Gard have 48 hours to present new evidence in their court case

Parents of Charlie Gard, Connie Yates and Chris Gard pose for the media ahead of delivering a petition with more than 350,000 signatures to Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, Sunday, July 9, 2017.

"We are just so grateful for all the support we've got and I think that any parent would want to do the same, if they knew there was a treatment out there that could help their child, they would want their child to have it", she said.

A British court on Monday held a preliminary hearing to consider possible new evidence in the case of a sick 11-month-old baby whose parents planned to take to U.S. for experimental treatment.

After an emotionally charged hearing in London's High Court, during which Charlie's mother wept in frustration and his father yelled at a lawyer, Judge Nicholas Francis gave them 48 hours to present new information in the case.

However, on Friday, Great Ormond Street had said that two unidentified global hospitals had "communicated to us that they have fresh evidence about their proposed experimental treatment".

N dubs JIT report 'trash'
The JIT submitted its report, along with two boxes of evidence, to the apex court on Monday morning amid tight security. Hussain Nawaz, elder son of the prime minister, appeared six times before the JIT and younger son Hassan Nawaz thrice.

The hospital requested a review of the justice after the publication of a letter from the Bambino Gesu Hospital in the Vatican, which presented its research and recommended that the Great Ormond Street Hospital "reconsider" its position.

The terminally ill British infant's parents have been fighting to take the baby to the USA for experimental treatment, but the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, where the child is admitted, refused to release him.

"There was a divide in opinion last week when Pope Francis and United States president Donald Trump publicly supported the fight to save terminally ill Charlie Gard", the dad of four wrote in his new! magazine column.

There are 18 children currently on this treatment - one of them wasn't able to do anything and now she's riding a bike, she said.

The proposed treatment for Charlie, nucleotide bypass surgery, is offered in the U.S. However, even an American specialist said the procedure is unlikely to revers Charlie's brain damage.

Speaking outside the hospital, Yates said: "He's our son, he's our flesh and blood".

Yates has said previously that, should the money raised for Charlie not be used on his treatment, it will be offered to support other children with similar genetic disorders.

The British government says the treatment would be extremely painful for the baby and would like for him to stay in Britain, but in Dr. Marc Siegel's opinion, the parents should be in charge.

Meanwhile, the Vatican has said the Pope is following the case "with affection and emotion" and "expresses his own closeness to his parents".
