A CONCACAF investigation report released in 2013 said Blazer "misappropriated CONCACAF funds to finance his personal lifestyle", causing the organisation to "subsidise rent on his residence in the Trump Tower in NY; purchase apartments at the Mondrian, a luxury hotel and residence in Miami; sign purchase agreements and pay down payments on apartments at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas".

He was a member of Fifa's ruling executive council until 2013 and served as general secretary at Concacaf, the North American football association, for 21 years.

Former FIFA Executive Committee member Chuck Blazer has died, according to his lawyers.

Blazer admitted accepting bribes in connection with the 1998 and 2010 World Cup bid processes, won by France and South Africa respectively.

Such was the complicated life of Chuck Blazer, a man who could undeniably claim to have helped push the United States into the world soccer spotlight yet did so via wholly unethical and illegal means, enriching himself and other captains of the sport and directly leading to the downfall of the regime that allowed it all to happen.

Addressing the press McGregor said , "He's in a ******* tracksuit" and added, He can't even afford a suit anymore. I was facing the best pound-for-pound fighter on the planet, Jose Aldo.

The impact of Blazer's death on the Federation Internationale de Football Association prosecution in the United States - where three South American soccer officials are set to go on trial in November - is unclear.

Blazer was banned from football for life in 2015 by FIFA for what the governing body called his "many acts of misconduct" at the organisation and as General Secretary of the Concacaf confederation.

Charges also included racketeering, wire fraud and income tax evasion.

Blazer's lawyers Eric Corngold and Mary Mulligan announced his death on Wednesday. Partly as a result of that, to date more than 40 individuals and entities have been charged, most notably Jack Warner, the notorious former CONCACAF president with whom Blazer worked for years and who has been cited as allegedly one of the biggest culprits in the entire corruption scandal.

While some sports executives try to shirk the limelight, Blazer relished the status gained through his 16 years on FIFA's executive committee until 2013. "His misconduct, for which he accepted full responsibility, should not obscure Chuck's positive impact on global soccer", the statement read.

At one point, Chuck had a $6,000 a month apartment at Trump Tower, exclusively for his cats, reports The Washington Post.
