  • The northern lights fill the sky in this image taken near Dafoe Sask. in May. There's a good chance Canada will be treated to a vibrant northern lights display this weekend

NASA's three-day forecast shows that the Northern Lights will be visible at night in much of B.C., though it gets a bit sketchier in the southwestern section of the province. The higher the number is, the stronger the storm and likely the further south the lights can be seen. Sun spots often help create explosions on the sun which can sometimes send streams of charged particles out into space. When those particles interact with Earth's magnetic field and atmospheric gases, they form the red and green colors of the aurora, according to USA Today.

Space Weather Prediction Centre The Space Weather Prediction Centre says a moderate geomagnetic storm will make auroras visible in North America between July 16 and 17, 2017. They are usually less forecastable than the weather and there is never a guarantee that any one location will have an aurora burst.

BC wildfire crews prepare for windy weekend
Controlled burns allow for the fuel to burn in a controlled setting before fires potentially move to the areas, due to wind. That's down from the more than 200 that were burning last weekend, but the weather forecast means more could be coming.

You'll improve your chances even more if you're out of the Boise area, meteorologists with the National Weather Service told the Statesman. The Northern Lights/Auroras are possible to see overnight leading into tomorrow morning.

The hype was huge, but the northern lights were disappointing for many New Englanders who stayed up with hopes of getting a glimpse. You have to get at least several miles away from the last remnants of city life; the further the better.

Jailed 20-year-old confesses in murders of missing 4
A 20-year-old man was arrested Wednesday on charges of trying to sell a auto belonging to one of the missing men. He was held on a $ 1 million bond in that case and was released after his parents posted $100,000 cash bail.

KGW chief meteorologist Matt Zaffino said while chances are slim, there is the possibility some in northeast OR may get a glimpse of the Northern Lights. So yes, it does take some strategic planning to see them, but it also takes a good dose of luck. However, if the sky is clouded over - as is now forecast for much of southwestern Ontario - you'll be out of luck. The yellow line is going to be the line at which the light might possibly reach.
