The coast guard also announced the island's port was damaged in the quake and that a ferry en route there was not docking.
Norway's foreign ministry said a Norwegian man was seriously injured in Kos during the natural disaster and was flown to a hospital for treatment. The epicentre of the quake was very close to hugely popular Turkish and Greek holiday resorts on the Aegean Sea.
