Outside the path of totality, the sky watchers in the continental US and other nearby areas can see the partial solar eclipse.

The total solar eclipse is to occur on Aug 21, 2017.

If you get a clear view of the eclipse, remember that there's a wrong way and several right ways to look at the sun. On that day, a partial eclipse will be seen in every state across the country, and a total solar eclipse will be visible across 14 states in the continental US along a 70-mile-wide stretch of the country. And then there's always the pinhole method, achieved by making a small hole in a piece of paper and projecting the sun's light through it onto a flat surface.

In the Winston-Salem area, according to Eclipsewise.com, the eclipse will be visible starting about 1:12 p.m., reaching its maximum coverage at 2:41, and ending about 4:03.

Young said that people should take the responsibility to verify that they have the proper viewing glasses and more so now that the eclipse is just a month away.

In other words, people here in the Triad will need special glasses.
