The July 22 open letter addresses these concerns, stating that the release of the report confirmed a preexisting belief that the 42 female stars were paid less than their male counterparts.

When the BBC released its annual report last week, the British media organization recognized it had a problem: Its male talent earns noticeably more than its female stars.

Some of its most high-profile presenters including Clare Balding and Victoria Derbyshire have written an open letter to Director-General Tony Hall containing more than 40 signatures.

He said he had made it a "personal priority" to fix the gap since 2013, adding: 'When figures are published next year I am confident they will look very different. When other organisations publish their gender pay data by next April, I want the BBC to be one of the best performers when comparisons are made. This would cap any annual wages at £400,000 if the lowest BBC pay is £20,000 a year.

Ultimately, companies that are transparent about pay, and consider the root causes of why they may have a gender pay gap in the first place, are most likely to find the solutions necessary to tackle the issue once and for all. Feels like we have been duped.

Ford says it will fight latest Takata air bag inflator recall
When the airbag is deployed, it can explode and launch metal shards which have penetrated people's eyes, face, neck, and chest. Toyota said the replacements would be safe for several years because faults only emerged as the airbags aged.

It is a cause that could resonant with younger, female voters; a cause that appeals to the progressive, liberal wing of her party cut adrift over Brexit; it is a cause that would garner the cross-party support.

Radio 4 Today presenter John Humphrys, acknowledged that his £600,000 salary was hard to justify: "On paper, absolutely nothing that justifies that huge amount of money, if you compare me with lots of other people who do visibly".

Tory former minister Anna Soubry, a former television presenter, said she kept a "very beady eye" on pay levels when she was a mother of the chapel at a branch of the National Union of Journalists.

Suzanne Horne, head of the global employment practice at law firm Paul Hastings, added: "Firms anxious about their gender pay gap need to run the numbers, review their diversity and inclusion initiatives and determine the appropriate voluntary context in which to present their results".

As such, 44 women from the BBC have signed a letter that demands something to be done about the gap "now" rather than by 2020 - the time limit Hall has given himself to sort the issue.

She earned at least £450,000 in the last fiscal year, a supremely impressive salary, but only enough to make her the BBC's seventh highest paid star overall. The salary of Chris Evans is said to be more than four times the salary of the highest-paid woman broadcaster of the channel, Claudia Winkleman which only earns between $586,444 to $650,000 per year.

George Alagiah, Jason Mohammad and Trevor Nelson are the highest paid BAME presenters, each receiving between £250,000 and £300,000.

Fellow presenter Mishal Husain, who signed the letter, earns between £200,000 and £249,999 while another co-host and signatory, Sarah Montague, failed to appear at all on the list detailing those earning over £150,000.
