  • Malayalam actress molestation case: Actor Dileep denied bail by Kerala High Court

It was reported that Kerala High Court has dismissed the bail plea of the actor while arguing that the evidence shows the involvement of the actor in the crime. However, the police are also investigating all financial transactions and real estate deals of the actor to determine the real motive for what had transpired. So much so that Dhe Puttu, a restaurant owned by Dileep, was vandalised by an angry mob.

With this, not only is Dileep looking at his two-week jail stay being prolonged, but also the loss of his stardom. The actor's counsel had submitted before the court that there was no evidence against him.

The High Court had reserved its orders on his bail plea in the case, on July 20. He was arrested on the statement of a notorious criminal called "Pulsar Suni", however the prosecution opposed the notion saying that the special investigation team (SIT) have enough material evidence to hold against Dileep including, hotel bills, phone call records, eyewitnesses who've spotted Suni on various occasions meeting with Dileep and even bank records.

Local reports have said that after the Kerala HC denied Dileep bail, the actor seemed dejected as his lawyers had expressed confidence in getting a ruling in his favour. He argued that his client had been questioned for a total of 23 hours by the police, and that he was not required any more for the goal of the investigation.

Producers of three Malayalam films with Dileep playing the lead role, which are in different stages of production, will have to bear their losses. After the incident, they had not acted together in any film. The High court then had withheld its judgement only to announce on Monday that the bail has been rejected.

Dileep - like any accused under Indian law - must be presumed innocent unless the court returns a verdict of "guilty". On Monday, 24 July, Thomas' auto came under attack.
