It is the FBI's understanding this was a domestic dispute of some kind that led to the woman's death.

A passenger on the ship told KTVA that he heard "two or three ladies or girls, definitely women, screaming" on the night of the incident.

The woman's death prompted the diversion of the cruise liner to Juneau, where it arrived nearly five hours ahead of schedule on Wednesday, Princess Cruises employee Kirby Day told KTVA.

UPDATE Wednesday 9:25 p.m.: An FBI spokeswoman in Anchorage says a suspect is in custody in the death of a woman on a cruise ship in USA waters off of Alaska.

The FBI is investigating the incident because the death occurred in US waters outside of state territory.
