  • Microsoft launches Windows bug bounty program with rewards ranging from $500 to $250,000

In March, Microsoft launched its Office Insider Builds bug bounty program, in which the reward limit was set at up to $15,000 in the normal course, and for "certain submissions", participants could gain up to $15,000 more, notes ZDNet.

The expanded "sustained" bug bounty program will offer up to US$15,000 for the discovery of vulnerabilities in Windows 10 Insider Preview slow ring.

This new Windows Bug Bounty program will go a long way towards helping identify and patch vulnerabilities in Microsoft's products, with a focus on remote code execution, privilege escalation, and inherent design flaws.

First Gene-Edited Human Embryos in the US
It's unclear what illnesses were involved exactly, but they used sperm donated by subjects with various inheritable diseases. They said it would be "irresponsible" to use gene editing technology in human embryos for therapeutic purposes.

Starting today, Microsoft is expanding programs it has offered as far back as 2012, to include Windows 10 in addition, to focus areas in Hyper-V, Mitigation bypass, Windows Defender Application Guard, and Microsoft Edge.

Bounty payouts will range from $500 to $250,000. The First finder of the Vulnerability already known by the company internally will be paid a maximum of 10% of the highest amount.

"All security bugs are important to us and we request you report all security bugs", the company explains.

Roomba robot cleaner to gather data on houses
We have to admit that it looks pretty wonderful in action, but did you also consider the fact that while it is navigating your home that it is also collecting data about it?

If you're interested in the maximum quarter-million bounty rewards, your only option is Hyper-V program, although you have multiple Microsoft's operating systems to choose from: Windows 10, Windows Server 2012, Windows Server 2012 R2, and Windows Server Insider Preview.

Microsoft's being quite generous with this program, because it will pay ten per cent of prize on offer to the first researcher who finds a flaw its own people have already discovered. The second highest reward of $200,000 will be available for those focusing on Mitigation Bypass, however it will only be limited to Windows 10. Paying a bounty costs the company only a little compared to fixing loopholes after it's too late.
