  • Gujarat MLAs restless in Bengaluru Resort D Shivkumar sent to'take care of them

Countering criticism of bringing the legislators to the resort to Bengaluru when Gujarat is reeling under heavy rain and floods, Gohil said the MLAs were brought here after party leaders came to know about BJP's attempt to poach their MLAs using "money and muscle" power.

The Election Commission has sought an enquiry report from the Gujarat Government over Congress' allegation of effecting defection of its MLAs by BJP. Forty-four Congress MLAs have been herded into the Eagleton resort on Mysuru Road, 22 km away from Bengaluru, protected from the all-out poaching offensive launched by the BJP in multiple states.

Rupani also criticised the party for sending its MLAs to Bangalore in "greed" of sending its senior leader Ahmed Patel to Rajya Sabha while the state is being hit by floods. He claimed that the Congress MLAs from Gujarat were fighting for democracy.

Gujarat: Congress flies 44 MLAs to Bengaluru to prevent defections
Stunned by the sudden exodus of MLAs, Gujarat Congress went into damage control mode to stop more MLAs from shifting allegiance. Six Congress MLAs in Gujarat have resigned in the last two days, ahead of the Rajya Sabha election in the state.

Now speaking on the issue, Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani has held Congress President Sonia Gandhi's love for her son Rahul Gandhi responsible for the current crisis.

The 44 Congress MLAs cloistered at a five star resort in Bengaluru, to prevent their poaching by the Bharatiya Janata Party, have rested and will spend the day visiting local temples and tourist sites, according to media reports.

He added that besides the 44 MLAs present in Bengaluru, seven other legislators are also in contact with the party as "their conscience is awakening". Three of them joined the BJP on Saturday.

United States economy rebounds in the second quarter
Prices of US government debt rose after the release of the data while the dollar initially fell against a basket of currencies. And it also lifted growth by the same 0.1 percentage point over the eight-year expansion, now the third longest in US history.

"If our people wanted to live in luxury in a resort, they could have taken the Rs 15 crore offered by the BJP and travelled across the world", he said. We are living like a family. "This is the internal problem of the Congress as its leader of opposition Shankarsinh Vaghela, its chief whip Balwantsinh Rajput and spokesperson Tajeshriben Patel have quit as they faced difficulties". Just see how we respect each other. Speculations are rife that all those who have gone to Bengaluru do not intend to remain in the party fold, and that they could resign after they return or cross vote in the Rajya Sabha elections on August 8.

The election for the third Rajya Sabha seat in Gujarat is turning out to be a tense battle of nerves with Congress hard work to stave off a humiliating defeat which will impact party morale and BJP keen to score a prestigious win that will emphasise its political dominance. Of the total 11 RS members from the state, the term of three - Irani and Dilipbhai Pandya (both BJP) and Ahmed Patel - is ending on August 18.

Bhupendra Yadav, in charge of BJP in Gujarat, said, "The Congress has asked all the MLAs to keep their mobile phones switched off".
