A little more than six months into his presidency, Donald Trump's approval rate has fallen to a new low, according to a poll published on Wednesday.

The poll also found respondents supportive of LGBT people in other ways.

The president's approval ratings in the conservative-leaning Rasmussen poll generally have been higher than in other polls.

The July 13 New York State poll found voters support constitutional convention; women's right to choose gets strongest support.

The nationwide poll of 1,125 voters was taken from July 27 to August 1; it has a margin of error of 3.4 percentage points. But only a third of Republicans think having gays and lesbians in the military affects readiness for the worse, significantly lower than the 48% who say this about transgender people. The pollster said that Americans by a 54-to-26 percent margin said they are embarrassed rather than proud to have Trump as president.

All of that helped push Trump's approval to a record low in this poll.

The survey of registered voters found that 68 percent overall were in favor and 27 percent opposed, the Quinnipiac survey showed.

However, they added it is too soon to say what President Trump might decide. The U.S. must send a clear message to China's government. Trump has repeatedly urged China to rein in North Korea.

Respondents also opposed one of Trump's signature goals, repealing and replacing the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a. Obamacare.

Fifty percent of white voters without a college degree, a group that was instrumental in Trump's victory in 2016, now disapprove of the president's job performance. According to the poll, which has a margin of error of 3 percentage points, 36 percent of voters approve of the president while 60 percent disapprove.

The May 11 national poll found 21% of US voters approve of revised GOP health plan; voters reject Trump tax plan nearly 2-1. In this poll, their net approval of Trump is at 62 points.

Frequently cited by journalists, public officials and researchers, the independent Quinnipiac University Poll regularly surveys residents in Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and nationwide about political races, state and national elections, and issues of public concern, such as schools, taxes, transportation, municipal services and the environment.
