  • UN Security Council Imposes New Sanctions against North Korea

The united states and china piled pressure on north Korea Sunday to abandon its nuclear missile programme after the un security council approved tough sanctions which could cost Pyongyang $1 billion a year.

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Monday urged North Korea to put a stop to its missile tests and return to the negotiating table at a time of maximum global pressure.

White House officials say Moon discussed a need to show North Korea that the door to dialogue is still open, should Pyongyang give up its nuclear program. Tillerson also said on August 6 that the Moon administration had taken an important step with its decision to temporarily deploy four additional THAAD launchers to the base in Seongju, North Gyeongsang Province, following North Korea's missile launch last month.

"The discussion was aimed at cooperating on a ministerial level to quickly launch negotiations to revise the missile guidelines and to accelerate working-level consultations so that the regular EDSCG talks can be finalized sooner", said an official from South Korea's Foreign Ministry who attended Kang and Tillerson's meeting.

However, U.S. figures calculated using a different methodology showed little change in the gap during the first five months year on year.

China Considering Military Action Against India
New Delhi , however, has not accepted Beijing's contention as it views the status of Sikkim as settled-that is, as part of India. China has put its foot down and demanded that Indian troops be immediately withdrawn to end the military standoff .

China has called for the USA and South Korea to suspend military drills on the Korean Peninsula in return for North Korea agreeing to a weapons freeze and returning to dialogue, but the U.S. has rejected this.

Nonetheless China's foreign minister, Wang Yi, said in Manila at the ASEAN meeting that China supported efforts by South Korea to reopen dialogue with North Korea.

The U.S. -drafted resolution bans North Korean exports of coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood following Pyongyang's two intercontinental ballistic missile tests in July.

In a flurry of diplomatic activity, North Korea's foreign minister, Ri Yong-ho, had a day earlier met with Mr Wang, his Russian counterpart, and even briefly met with his South Korean counterpart after the two bumped into one another waiting for an ASEAN event.

China is North Korea's longstanding ally.

Trump defends national security advisor from right-wing critics
Some conservatives have also criticized him for granting security clearance to Susan Rice, Obama's national security adviser. Another conservative outlet, The Daily Caller, declared that " Everything the President Wants to Do, McMaster Opposes ".

"In this regard, we strongly urge the DPRK to immediately comply fully with its obligations under all relevant U.N. Security Council resolutions", the foreign ministers said.

The resolution "condemns in the strongest terms" North Korea's July 4 and July 28 missile tests, and adds new individuals and entities, including the Foreign Trade Bank, a state-owned lender that acts as North Korea's "primary foreign exchange bank", to a United Nations sanctions list.

North Korea's Rodong Sinmun news website published a commentary dismissing the sanctions as "cooked up by the US", adding that "the USA mainland is on the crossroads of life and death".

The Chinese envoy also urged the United States and South Korea not to increase tensions because the situation is in a "critical point".

The Trump administration cautiously embraced China's apparent newfound cooperation, while putting it on notice the USA would be watching closely to ensure it didn't ease up on North Korea if and when the world's attention is diverted elsewhere.
