Former FBI Director Robert Mueller was appointed special counsel in May, and tasked with investigating charges levied by the Democrats that the Trump campaign colluded with Russian Federation in the 2016 presidential election.

The FBI conducted a predawn raid on former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort's Alexandria, Va., home two weeks ago, seizing tax and banking records that in some cases had been provided to a Senate committee. Attorney General Jeff Sessions had recused himself from any investigations into the Trump campaign activities, on grounds that he was part of the campaign himself.

The company the committee thinks was behind a mostly unverified dossier on Trump - Fusion GPS and CEO Glenn Simpson - has not turned over any documents yet.

In addition to Swift, Mueller named her mother and a member of her team as defendants in the lawsuit . Opening statements are expected on Tuesday afternoon in a case that could last two weeks.

In addition to questions about his work for the Ukrainian government and whether it violated a federal law requiring him to disclose such connections, Manafort has come under suspicion more recently for a meeting he joined with Donald Trump Jr., Jared Kushner and Russians at Trump Tower in NY last summer.

The FBI was working at the behest of special counsel Robert Mueller, investigating Trump's campaign for possible collusion with Russian Federation, the Post reported.

The Post's scoop about the FBI seizing materials from Manafort's Alexandria, Va., home adds a whole new layer of intrigue to the Russian Federation investigation.

The Chinese envoy also urged the United States and South Korea not to increase tensions because the situation is in a "critical point".

Manafort spokesman Jason Maloni confirmed that the raid took place and asserted that the former campaign chairman was fully cooperating with the investigation. Among the notes Manafort reportedly submitted to Congress are his notes from the now-infamous June 2016 meeting between Donald Trump Jr and a Russian lawyer at the Trump Tower.

In recent months, Mr Flynn and Mr Manafort have turned over documents to congressional committees investigating the election interference. He has come under intense scrutiny in the investigation into Russian election meddling since previous year.

Federal agents arrived at Manafort's home without warning and departed with records, according to the report.
