  • Tampa's Raymond James Stadium being considered to join bid for 2026 FIFA World Cup

For the 1994 World Cup (24 teams, 52 games), the USA venues were: Foxboro Stadium (no longer exists), Giants Stadium (no longer exists), D.C.'s RFK Stadium (near death), Orlando's Citrus Bowl (major renovation), Soldier Field (major renovation), Pontiac Silverdome (scheduled for demolition), Dallas' Cotton Bowl (major renovation), the Bay Area's Stanford Stadium (major renovation) and Pasadena, California's Rose Bowl (minor renovation).

Montreal's Olympic Stadium, with capacity for 61,004 people, is the largest of the Canadian stadia.

"U.S. Bank Stadium is a world-class facility and we are excited to be among the venues chosen to bid on the World Cup in 2026", Minnesota Sports Facilities Authority Chair Michael Vekich said in a statement. Slated to host 60 tournament games, the United States would feature the most venues.

Trump received sharp criticism, even from members of his own party, for failing to directly condemn white supremacists. Seibert says Merkel also regrets the death of a counter-protester and sent her sympathies to those injured.

Next month, a shortlist of cities that will be part of the bid will be announced, before the bid is submitted in March, 2018.

The bid has to be formally submitted to Federation Internationale de Football Association by March 2018.

Lenarduzzi was managing the Vancouver 86ers of the Canadian Soccer League when the USA was awarded the 1994 tournament in 1988. Mexico (10 matches) is lobbying for three locations and Canada (10) would probably get two or three, leaving the United States with up to 11 sites.

The crash happened after one person was killed at the rally, when a auto ploughed into a crowd of anti-racism protesters. Demonstrators are still staging rallies around the city, and reports say a auto crashed into a group of protesters.

Morocco is the only other country to have declared its intention to bid for the 2026 World Cup, which will be the first in which the tournament field expands from 32 to 48 teams. The UBC will then provide more detailed bid documentation to the cities and conduct meetings to discuss questions as candidate cities prepare their final bid, which is due in early January.

RFK Stadium was among nine venues used during the 1994 World Cup, the last time the tournament was staged in North America. Other regional candidates include Atlanta, Birmingham, Charlotte, Miami, Nashville, New Orleans and Tampa.
