  • Intel has tweaked the performance watt ratios in order to keep the power consumption of all unlocked CPU versions under 100 W

Intel (INTC) and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) can boost the personal computer market with new parts, writes David Wong of Wells Fargo this morning, reiterating Outperform ratings on both companies' stocks.

The eighth-generation parts announced today are using an architecture codenamed "Kaby Lake", while the desktop processors due out in the fall will use one called "Coffee Lake" with slight changes.

To throw some numbers around, Intel is also claiming a 2x improvement in performance over a five-year old machine, 48 percent faster image editing performance compared to 7th gen, 14.7x faster video rendering performance compared to 5-year old devices and 10-hours of battery life while playing back 4K UHD content.

When Richmond saw Bruzzese, Abdalla said, he "jumped out" of the vehicle and ran over to begin shooting. He added that Bruzzese was Lifeflighted to a Pittsburgh-area hospital in stable condition.

The first batch of the company's eighth generation chips, nicknamed "Kaby Lake R", will power upcoming laptops launching this year and next.

Intel is promising its new notebook processors will deliver big performance gains without sacrificing battery life. The 8 Gen family will also include some of Intel's first 10 nm products.

For partners, that performance boost is essential for driving sales to small businesses, according to Intel Channel Chief Todd Garrigues. This year, Intel is bring its new 8th Generation Core CPUs. These performance improvements are the result of these processors supporting up to four cores and eight threads, a first for the company's U-series of mobile processors. Previously, a seventh-generation part would have used the same underlying architecture, process node technology, and developers could count on a specific set of features and capabilities.

The flagship Core i7-8650U packs 8MB of L3 cache, works at a base frequency of 1.9GHz and 4.2GHz Turbo clocks and has a dual-channel DDR4-2400/LPDDR3-2133 memory support. Personally, I'm praying Apple uses these new chips for future MacBook Pros. What we're witnessing today isn't the expected release of Coffee Lake, which we have been talking about for months thanks to numerous leaks, but what Intel is calling "Kaby Lake Refresh".

About every two years, Intel introduces new processors that shape the computing industry and this year's no different.

Intel will reveal more about the 8th generation platform live on Facebook at 8.30 pm IST.

Intel is very keen to tell world+dog that these "new and improved" Core i5 and i7 chips will give users an "up to 40 per cent" increase in performance over previous models.
