  • Ohio judge wounded in courthouse shooting, suspect killed

According to court records Judge Bruzzese was the original judge who determined that a visiting judge should be appointed to oversee the case against Ma'Lik Richmond and Trent Mays, accused of raping an unconscious 16-year-old in 2012.

Police said a man apparently waiting for Judge Joseph Bruzzese, who sits on the Jefferson County Court of Common Pleas, ran up to the judge and began shooting when he approached the courthouse. Jefferson County Commissioner Thomas Graham told WTOV that some courthouse workers witnessed the "tragic situation" and that people would need time to process what had happened. "He was clearly an intended target", Corabi said.

Richmond was struck three times and killed on Monday. He added that Bruzzese was Lifeflighted to a Pittsburgh-area hospital in stable condition.

Officials believe the probation officer hit the suspect.

Abdalla also said that during the Richmond's shots, the judge pulled out his own weapon, returning fire. Republican governor John Kasich said he was told the judge would survive.

"It just hurts. First thing on a Monday morning".

Chief Justice Maureen O'Connor said Monday morning's attack on Jefferson County Judge Joseph Bruzzese (bruh-ZEEZ') Jr.is a reminder of the real potential for violence against judges.

An Ohio judge was shot Monday morning outside his courthouse in an ambush attack that ended when the judge and a probation officer returned fire, killing the attacker, authorities said. When Richmond saw Bruzzese, Abdalla said, he "jumped out" of the vehicle and ran over to begin shooting.

Muguruza & Halep face off for the Cincinnati title
It will be a tough task for Muguruza as Halep has yet to lose a set at the Western & Southern Open. Swatting a menacing forehand victor crosscourt, she gained a fifth match point.

Neither the suspected shooter nor his suspected accomplice were immediately identified. A second person affiliated with the shooter, the driver of a auto who was struck by a possible ricochet, isn't considered a suspect since the attacker simply told them "he had to be in court Monday morning".

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation will handle the investigation. He says BCI's special investigations, crime scene and cyber units are on the case.
