Journalist Gauri Lankesh, 55, who was shot dead outside her house in south Bengaluru's Rajarajeshwari Nagar on Tuesday evening, was known for her work that often criticised the system and pointed out alleged flaws in policy and governance.

Journalists from Delhi will gather at Delhi Press on September 6 (Wednesday) to protest against the brutal murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh who was shot dead outside her home in Bangalore today.

"Preliminary investigations revealed the assailants fired seven bullets, three hit her body, while as four others missed the intended target and hit the wall", the official said.

Gauri was previous year convicted in a defamation case filed by BJP lawmaker Prahlad Joshi over a report published in her tabloid against some leaders of the party. She was the daughter of late poet-turned-journalist P Lankesh who launched "Lankesh Patrike" several decades ago.

The development comes hours after, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the killing was a clear case of organized crime and a special investigating team (SIT) headed by a senior police officer has been formed to lead the probe.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan tweeted: "Shocked to hear that the courageous Journalist-Activist Gauri Lankesh has been shot dead in Bengaluru".

West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamul Congress President, Mamata Banerjee has called out for immediate arrest of the perperators. "Miscreants will be brought to book very soon", he said. She had been under attack from people with ideological differences. He said that she is one of the note writer and journalist from the state. The neighbour also said they heard the sound of two scooters. We did not have any information about a death treat to her.

The Editor's Guild of India has demanded the Karnataka government to ensure justice to Gauri Lankesh by ensuring the arrest of her murderers. "Gauri Lankesh lives on in our hearts", he said.
