  • Activity at North Korea's Punggye-ri Nuclear Test Site

North Korea has threatened to sink Japan and reduce the United States to "ashes and darkness" for leading the latest UN Security Council sanctions imposed on the country. He has now visited North Korea 32 times as part of his "sports exchanges" between Japan and North Korea, which have no formal diplomatic ties.

South Korea said yesterday it had conducted its first live-fire drill for an advanced air-launched cruise missile that would strengthen its pre-emptive strike capability against North Korea in the event of crisis.

"A telling blow should be dealt to them who have not yet come to senses after the launch of our ICBM over the Japanese archipelago", said the spokesman, whose committee is an affiliate of North Korea's ruling Workers' Party.

In a statement, North Korea responded by calling the actions "state terrorism" and that the "chief culprit" involved in "cooking up the "sanctions resolution", be beaten to death with a stick fit for a rabid dog".

The most recent satellite images of North Korea's nuclear site taken Friday show a greater number of surface disturbances following Pyongyang's sixth nuclear test than previous tests at Punggye-ri, US analysts say.

The new sanctions set a cap on crude and refined oil exports to North Korea at 8.5 million barrels per year, which represents a 30 percent reduction, according to US officials.

And now, North Korea is making a new threat to Japan, where thousands of US troops are stationed.

Illicit evasion and a thriving black market continue to mitigate the impact of sanctions meant to deprive North Korea of billions of dollars in revenue and needed components for its nuclear program.

A slew of starters to be rested for Europa match
This season's Europa League represents a golden opportunity for Wenger to finally win European silverware for his club. On Thursday night, at the odd and unfamiliar time of 8:05 p.m.

The Nuclear Safety and Security Commission said Wednesday the discovery of xenon-133 isotope is linked to the North's bomb test conducted in its northeast on September 3.

Earlier this month, South Korea's defense minister suggested it was worth reviewing the redeployment of US tactical nuclear weapons on the peninsula in order to deter threats from the North, something conservative US Sen. That led to Resolution 1718, establishing a United Nations sanctions regime, aiming to stop all nuclear, ballistic missile, and other weapons of mass destruction programs.

This yield is close to what 38 North previously estimated to be the maximum containable yield for the test site in Punggye-ri, northeastern North Korea, it added.

According to 38 North, satellite images suggested the nuke test resulted in landslides occurring at the Punggye-ri test site.

Global tensions, USA storms and economy lift oil, Kuwaiti bank says
In the first half of this year, crude oil price declined by around 15 percent, which is its worst H1 showing in 19 years. Analysts anticipate the power outages and the evacuation of the region may damp consumer appetite for crude.
