She survived the 2014 attack.

The jury found Anissa Weier not criminally responsible by reason of mental illness for her role in the stabbing of a classmate to please the fictional character Slender Man.

Jurors reached the verdict late Friday in the trial of Anissa Weier.

Weier struck a deal with prosecutors in August in which she pleaded guilty to being a party to attempted second-degree intentional homicide, essentially acknowledging she committed all the elements of the offense. The jury's job was to decide whether she was. If the jury had found her guilty, she could have gone to prison for 10 years.

The schoolgirl developed a "delusional belief system" with Geyser and together they made a plan to kill Payton and become Slender Man's proxies, Smith said.

Getafe 1-2 Barcelona
In first half stoppage time Guaita produced a good save to turn Lionel Messi's free kick away for a corner. Getafe took the lead through Gaku Shibasaki , but an average Barca drew level thanks to Denis Suarez .

All three girls were 12.

Geyser was diagnosed with schizophrenia a few months after the assault, WISN reported.

Judge Michael Bohren told jurors they must decide whether Weier had a mental illness at the time of the crime and if so, whether she lacked the capacity to understand her wrongful conduct. McMahon also said that a judge can order up to a 25-year commitment for Weier. He ordered the panel to continue deliberating.

A shared delusion and an interest in the paranormal led two girls to stab another 12-year-old girl in a Wisconsin park as a tribute to the fictional horror character Slender Man, a psychologist testified Wednesday.

She was found crawling from woods by a cyclist near the city of Waukesha, a western suburb of Milwaukee. All three were 12 at the time. Jurors will determine whether she was mentally ill when she helped stab Payton Leutner.

He said: "They have really good accelerators but not very good brakes".

An attorney for a girl accused of stabbing a classmate to appease online horror character Slender Man is telling a jury that her mind was "broken" during the attack. At one point before the attack, prosecutors claim Weier unleashed Geyser by saying "go berserk", according to the Journal Sentinel. All the girls were 12 at the time.

"At the moment of this bad tragic event, that she was confused and convinced that something real was going on with this very unusual character called Slender Man", he said.

In closing arguments Friday, Weier's attorney, Maura McMahon insisted that Weier and Geyser suffered a shared delusion that Slender Man was real.
