  • Hamas says it accepts Abbas's reconciliation demands

Palestinian group Hamas, which is governing the Gaza Strip, has announced that it's ready to engage in talks with President Mahmoud Abbas' administration to dissolve its administrative committee and hold a general election as part of a reconciliation deal brokered by Egypt.

Hamas has run Gaza since 2007, when it forced troops loyal to Abbas from the coastal enclave a year after defeating his Fatah movement in parliamentary elections.

They agreed to the unity government in 2014, but Hamas has continued to oversee Gaza with its administrative body.

The decision was in response to reconciliation talks between the principal Palestinian factions, Hamas and Fattah, mediated by Egypt.

Asked whether his own job might be under pressure, Koeman said he knew modern-day soccer was "all about winning and results".

Palestinian Authority also presurrized Hamas by reducing electricity in Gaza and cutting of salaries.

However, in a statement made on Monday following a meeting with Egyptian officials in Cairo, the group said it was prepared to start talks with Fatah.

Fatah has welcomed the new pledges, but said it wants to see vows implemented before making the next move.

Those reasons, coupled with an escalating sewage crisis that threatens the health of Gaza Strip residents and has ruined the Strip's beaches is contaminating the strip's beaches, and a crippling unemployment, have all contributed Hamas finally, maybe, crying Uncle.

The negotiations were "an expression of Egyptian interest in Palestinian reconciliation and ending the division, and our interest to realize the hopes of the Palestinian people by achieving national unity", CNN quoted Hamas as saying. 'If this is Hamas statement, then this is a positive sign, ' he told Reuters.

Bjorn Brenner, the author of Gaza Under Hamas, said that Hamas agreed to disband its administrative committee because it has come under the pressure to deliver to the people of Gaza. There was no immediate comment from Abbas's government, and a senior Palestinian official was guarded in his optimism.

However, Bjorn was skeptical if Hamas's announcement on Sunday would lead to a full-fledged reconciliation between Hamas and Fatah.

Gaza has been under an Israeli blockade since Hamas violently seized control of the territory from the Palestinian Authority.
