  • Twitter to test longer tweets to drive engagement

Twitter is letting some of its users get a little chattier - allowing posts that are twice as long as the traditional 140 character messages. On the other hand, many found the limit to be a nuisance that prevented them from communicating a thought or making a statement in just one tweet.

They are now testing the new 280 character limit with a select group of people before making a decision to expand the feature. The average Japanese character tweet is 15 characters, but English writers use 34. "Trying to cram your thoughts into a Tweet - we've all been there, and it's a pain", Twitter project manager Aliza Rosen and senior software engineer Ikuhiro Ihara said in the post. "That is something we will never change", Rosen said.

Twitter's most famous feature is getting a big overhaul.

The employees wrote that because of alphabet differences, 9 percent of tweets in English hit the 140-character limit.

Ryanair's latest flight cancellations could hit 400000 customers
Ryanair is planning to ground 25 of its aircraft from November 2017 to March 2018 which will result in 30 routes being suspended. It is one of 34 flights which will be grounded from November until March after the company said it would "slow its growth".

You might not have to abbreviate words or edit down your tweets anymore - as Twitter is testing the expansion of its tweet character limit.

The 140-character limit was originally established to reflect the length of SMS messages, which was how tweets were sent prior to the invention of mobile messaging apps.

Last year, there were reports that the micro-blogging site may go for 10,000-character tweets.

Twitter on Tuesday announced it was testing 280-character tweets with a few of its users.

Mnuchin: Trump doesn't want to be in a nuclear war
North Korea has refused to stop its missile and nuclear tests, despite successive rounds of United Nations sanctions. Said to be a "suspected explosion ", it raised fears Kim Jong-un's regime had conducted another nuclear test.

The 140-character limit has been around as long as Twitter has and has become part of the product's personality.

The trial is being rolled out to a small percentage of Twitter's 328 million monthly active users.

Twitter is expanding the amount of characters you can tweet - from the usual 140 to 280. But it said the new limit, while double the size, is "still brief".
