Asked at a press conference whether that fate had been averted by his victory, Bolton said, "Absolutely, yes". But their new leader has promised to rally the party behind their core message of a guaranteed hard Brexit.

He said security forces had killed 18 al-Shabaab militants.

Al Shabaab, which is affiliated to Al Qaeda, has been fighting to overthrow Somalia's internationally backed government since 2007.

Somali government paid compensation "blood money" for the families who lost their loved ones in the attack, after refusing to bury the dead bodies, and held rally in Mogadishu in protest of the killing.
