  • The United Arab Emirates announced its decision to build a Martian city in the desert

Plans for the Mars Science City form part of the United Arab Emirate's Mars 2117 Strategy, which aims to build the first settlement on Mars within the next 100 years.

Data from the probe and Mars Science City will support the UAE's long term goal of establishing a city on Mars by 2117.

"I am proud that the UAE won as the host city for the International Astronautical Congress 2020, which will be attended by 5,000 specialised scholars and astronauts", said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai.

Pilot Flying J: Get a free cup of the alleged "best coffee on the interstate", or any small hot tea or cappuccino. The deal applies to any of the chain's hot coffee offerings from midnight on Friday through midnight on Sunday.

The high-tech city will cover 1.9 million square feet, making it the largest space-simulation city ever built, providing a viable and realistic model to simulate living on the surface of Mars. According to the press release, "The project encompasses laboratories for food, energy, and water, as well as agricultural testing and studies about food security in the future".

Not only laboratories, this man-made city will house a museum showcasing humanity's greatest space achievements. The walls of the Museum will be printed on a 3D prineter using sand from the desert of the UAE.

Sheikh Mohammed also hailed UAE nationals for their efforts towards this success.

'Network issue' causes global airport delays
According to Gatwick, it was caused by a problem with Amadeus Altea , a passenger management system used by 125 airlines . Changi Airport did not comment on whether all airlines that experienced network issues use the Amadeus Altea software.

That timeline is considerably quicker than the UAE's plans for a "mini-city" on Mars by 2117. It will be named the Martian Scientific City and will consist of a science museum section created to inspire visitors and a scientific testing section.

"We seek to set an example and motivation for others to participate, and contribute, to humanity's march into space". The report says that team building the structure is tasked with using advanced 3D printing techniques, and heat and radiation insulation to mimic the harsh environment of our neighbor, www.engadget.com reports. The researchers will carry out various experiments involving food, water and energy needs on the distant planet, said a report in the Mirror.

Mars Science City is budgeted to cost the equivalent of $136 million.

The emergence of UAE in the field will be an interesting prospect as it could lead to a "race to mars" between the oil-rich kingdom and the Elon Musk-run SpaceX, which is also attempting to establish a human colony on the red planet.
