Klopp among contenders as Ancelotti quits Bayern Munich

Former Chelsea and AC Milan boss Ancelotti has been in charge at the Allianz Arena for almost 15 months after taking over as Pep Guardiola's successor in July 2016.

Pressure had already been building on Ancelotti, 58, with Bayern enduring an inconsistent start to the season before losing 3-0 to PSG in the French capital Wednesday.

Ancelotti's assistant and former Bayern defender Willy Sagnol will take charge in the interim, though Hoffenheim coach Julian Nagelsmann has been long touted as a target by Allianz Arena chiefs.

U.S. will watch Pak's choices over new Afghan policy: Mattis
A statement issued by the Russian foreign ministry said that Pentagon's claims on Russia's aid to the Taliban were groundless. He said the insurgents mined the area around the base to prevent authorities from sending in reinforcements.

In announcing the decision, Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge claimed Ancelotti's dismissal was due to the team's performances failing to meet expectations. "I expect the team to produce a positive response and show absolute determination to achieve our targets for the season". I will say nothing about it.

"I think what we saw this evening [Wednesday] was not Bayern Munich". Then there is nothing to misunderstand or to interpret wrong.

Arjen Robben was one of a number of Bayern players left out of the starting line-up for the match at the Parc des Princes as part of Ancelotti's rotation policy, an approach that has brought further questions, and the Dutch star declined to directly back his manager after the game.

Bayern Munich doesn't often make long-term plans about who will be their coach, but I think they will choose a young coach who can speak the language of the players and who wants to play very intensive football. I think it's important to turn things around after this loss, to present as Bayern Munich and to show we are a team, [the one] which performed well in Europe and in Germany previous year.

Earlier on Wednesday night, Ancelotti, a three-time Champions League victor, said he was "still convinced it was good line-up but the situation of the game was against us". "That's where we have to continue".
