Cruz, in emotional appeals on TV on Friday, has become the face of Puerto Rican officials distraught over what some of them charge is insufficient response by the US government to the crisis.

On Saturday morning, Trump unleashed a tweetstorm on the mayor of San Juan, Carmen Yulín Cruz, who a day earlier criticized the government's response and pleaded for help.

Colin Jost and Michael Che also slammed Trump for his response during SNL's "Weekend Update".
