London's Metropolitan Police detained a man Saturday after a vehicle collision left several pedestrians injured near two major museums in the British capital, and later said they are not treating the incident as terror-related.

"Police have confirmed that today's incident at Exhibition Road is not terrorist-related and is being treated as a road-traffic collision", London Mayor Sadiq Khan tweeted.

London's Metropolitan Police said on Twitter that the incident was not being treated as a terrorist attack, but instead as a "road traffic collision".

Mark Ringwood from Emsworth was in the capital this afternoon when a auto ploughed into pedestrians near the Natural History Museum which has left 11 people injured. Nine people were hospitalized with head and leg injuries that were not judged to be life-changing. The injuries are not considered life-threatening, police said.

The accident at 2:20 p.m. outside the popular Natural History Museum in the heart of central London brought a big police response, including helicopters and hazardous area response teams, because of terrorist concerns.

Nearby museums including the Science Museum and Victoria and Albert Museum were evacuated with Tube stations sealed off by police. The Ambulance Service said it was responding.

Police said on Sunday the driver had been released under investigation.
