  • North Korea hackers steal South Korea war plans

Two B-1B strategic bombers of the US Air Force trained with South Korea's F-15K fighter jets over and near the Korean peninsula in yet another show of force against North Korea, defence authorities here said on Wednesday.

The training was part of a programme of "extended deterrence" against North Korea, it added.

South Korean lawmaker Rhee Cheol-hee made the claim on Tuesday, saying the information came from Seoul's Defense Ministry, Yonhap reports.

The U.S. bombers took off from the Andersen Air Force base in Guam, the U.S. Pacific territory that North Korea singled out as a possible target for a missile strike over the summer, as President Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un engaged in bombastic rhetoric and brinkmanship. There are also serious concerns about North Korea's cyberwarfare capabilities, but the USA has been carrying out operations of its own to counter North Korean cyber operations in Northeast Asia and elsewhere.

What does Trump want in exchange for letting DACA recipients stay?
The list was criticised by Mr Chuck Schumer and Ms Nancy Pelosi , the respective Democratic leaders in the Senate and House. In a joint statement , they said that the plans present no attempt at compromise.

Late last month, the United States flew B-1Bs over global waters close to the North's east coast.

Details of the alleged 2016 hack emerged as President Donald Trump continues to imply that diplomatic efforts to rein in North Korea's nuclear and missile programs through negotiations have proven to be ineffective.

"While I would not characterize them as the best in the world, they are among the best in the world and the best organized", Army Gen. Vincent Brooks, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, told the Senate a year ago.

"If the North Koreans in fact accessed the US/South Korean defense plans, this is a treasure trove of information and presents a real danger", said CNN military analyst and retired Lt. Col. Rick Francona. North Korea's possession of secret war plans would require a major overhaul of how South Korea and its ally Washington would respond if there's another war on the Korean Peninsula.

"Our country has been unsuccessfully dealing with North Korea for 25 years, giving billions of dollars & getting nothing".

Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam will hold strategic talks with visiting U.S. Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan on October 18 in Seoul, according to Seoul's foreign ministry.

"There is an urgent need for the military to change and update parts that were stolen by North Korea", Lee said.

The mission was the latest show of force to North Korea after its long-range intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests and hydrogen bomb test that have ratcheted tensions with the United States. North Korea needs time and proof to believe that abandoning its nuclear programme will contribute to its own political and economic advantage.
