At the Oculus Connect developer conference October 11, the Facebook subsidiary unveiled its latest VR headset, the Oculus Go.

Oculus was started as a PC-focused virtual reality platform before Facebook acquired the company, but it has since ventured into mobile VR with the Samsung Gear VR partnership.

There are also built-in speakers, which will support spatial audio natively.

ARKTIKA.1's current price is $29.99 United States dollars (or your regional equivalent) and is available now for the Oculus Rift.

"The strategy for Facebook is to make the onboarding to VR as easy and affordable as possible", said Gartner analyst Brian Blau. "And $199 is an low-priced entry for a lot of people who are just starting out in VR". You'll also be able to show off in-game achievements and play hidden retro games, too.

Hartley confirmed for F1 drive

Facebook's new headset, called Oculus Go, will cost $199 when it hits the market next year.

Oculus Go is positioned in the middle of the road, and this is an important link to make if Facebook wants to grow VR.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg made public today a new goal for the company: get one billion people into VR.

Two days earlier, a cartoon version of Zuckerberg visited hurricane-damaged Puerto Rico, in a livestream that was part disaster tourism, part product promotion.

In reality they were at the company's Menlo Park, California, headquarters wearing virtual reality headsets. Most people don't have the cash, space, or expertise to build a room-scale VR rig inside their home.

Facebook VP of VR Hugo Barra says Oculus Go is the best way for developers to get into VR.

"Reading some of the comments, I realize this wasn't clear, and I'm sorry to anyone this offended".

Tech titans Google, Microsoft, Samsung and Sony all have varying degrees of investment into VR projects of their own.

According to a report by research firm Gartner, about 16 million head-mounted display devices were shipped past year. The headset was then known under the code name "Santa Cruz".
