  • A Japanese woman nicknamed the 'black widow' been sentenced to death for killing her husband and two others

The Black Widow made special request to dating agencies to fix her with wealthy and childless men.

A Japanese court on Tuesday sentenced a 70-year-old woman to hang for the deaths of her husband and two other former partners, and the attempted murder of a fourth man.

The media dubbed her "black widow" in reference to a female spider that kills its mates after sex.

The serial killer kept some of her cyanide in a plant pot which she later threw out, according to prosecutors.

Broadcom Offers to Acquire Qualcomm for $103 Billion

That failed attempt clearly didn't deter Kakehi, who would go on to kill 75-year-old Isao Kakehi a month after they were married in 2013-something Kakehi acknowledged during the trial but later denied, per the BBC.

Shortly after the ruling, Kakehi's lawyers filed an appeal with a higher court, suggesting the high-profile trial could yet drag on.

The Kyoto District Court acknowledged that Chisako Kakehi, 70, used cyanide in the four cases and determined that she is competent to stand trial and can be held responsible for the crimes despite having been diagnosed with dementia in a psychiatric test.

Kakehi was first arrested in November 2014 and indicted the following month on a charge of killing her husband, who died at the couple's home in Muko, Kyoto Prefecture, in December 2013, about a month after their marriage. They accused her of plotting her crimes well in advance, including helping to prepare notary documents linked to wills. She said her husband treated her unfairly when it came to finances, giving more money to a woman he previously dated than to her. She made over $8.8 million in insurance payouts over a decade, though supposedly lost most of it in the stock market.

Pastor's 14-year-old daughter among those slain in church shooting
He didn't want to say what he'd heard about the horror of what occurred in the church until all family members had been notified. There is a large police presence at the church in Sutherland Springs, which 48 kilometres southeast of San Antonio.

"Even if I were executed tomorrow, I would die smiling", Kakehi told judges.

They have appealed against the death sentence, arguing that her dementia means she can not be held liable for her crimes. Having opened in June, it was the second longest of its kind, with 135 days spent on examining the case.

The presiding judge, Ayako Nakagawa, stated that extenuating mental health issues could not explain away the extreme nature of her history, saying, "It was a heinous crime driven by greed for money".
