Facebook Global Head of Safety Antigone Davis has clarified some things about how Facebook's test pilot to combat revenge porn in Australia works.

There are fears the images could be found before being deleted, intercepted on their way to Facebook, or people could get around the technology by simply resizing images. The system, now being piloted in Australia in partnership with the country's eSafety Commissioner, allows users to upload nude photos preemptively directly to Facebook Messenger, so the company can create a digital fingerprint of sorts for the file to then prevent it from being uploaded maliciously in the future.

According to the eSafety office, Facebook users who are concerned that an intimate image of them may end up online can complete an online form.

We can all agree that the recent spike in revenge porn is something that needs to be tackled in the tech-world, which is exactly why Facebook have come through with a solution to the problem.

Facebook Australia's plan to fight revenge porn seems a bit counterintuitive.

Prof Clare McGlynn, from Durham Law School, said that the United Kingdom should establish a similar organisation to Australia's e-safety commission.

Google to show estimated wait times for restaurants
Google predicts it will be able to offer these wait times for nearly a million restaurants worldwide when the update is completed. Yes, it's an opt-in feature, and yes, you've probably opted-in, because it makes Maps and Search a lot more useful.

Australia's e-safety commissioner Julia Inman Grant told ABC, 'We see many scenarios where maybe photos or videos were taken consensually at one point, but there was not any sort of consent to send the images or videos more broadly'.

Four percent of internet users in the US have been victims of revenge porn and 10 percent of women under the age of 30 have had someone threaten to expose explicit photos of them online, according to a 2016 study by the research institute Data & Society. Facebook said once the user sends the image via Messenger, it will use technology to create a digital fingerprint or link to the picture.

The program is available in three other countries i.e, U.S., U.K., and Canada. One suggestion is to hash the image locally and then upload the hash to determine a match.
