"We are honored to be working with the Tolkien Estate and Trust, HarperCollins and New Line on this exciting collaboration for television and are thrilled to be taking "The Lord of the Rings" fans on a new epic journey in Middle Earth", said Sharon Tal Yguado, head of scripted series for Amazon Studios.

Amazon has acquired the USA and global rights to develop, produce, and air a television show based on J.R.R. Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings novel. Peter Jackson's LOTR movie trilogy is 558 minutes (!) altogether, and that's not counting the extended version.

Amazon have just announced they will be producing a new Lord of the Rings television series but it is unsure whether kiwis will be the butt of more hobbit jokes yet. Amazon is partnering with New Line Cinema, which of course was the film company behind the much-loved trilogy that began in 2001, and the Tolkien Estate, as well as HarperCollins for some reason. For one thing, the HBO series started as a very faithful adaptation with a built-in audience of loyal book fans. The viewership is simply too fractured and too distracted now to allow any show, no matter the subject matter, to capture a Thrones-level audience ever again. That's not, historically, how these things go. Some can only assume that the show, or one of the spin-offs, could follow the popular game series Shadow of Mordor, or a young Aragorn as mentioned in the end The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies.

The rumour of a Lord of the Rings television show caused a hell of a lot of fanfare.

So I wanted to have athletic toned legs for sure. "Flawless hijab moment right here-this is incredible ", she exclaimed . "Through playing with Barbie , I was able to imagine and dream about who I could become", said Ibtihaj Muhammad .

There is no word yet on when The Lord of the Rings TV series will begin airing but you can expect it within the next three years, probably premiering after the Game of Thrones spin-off has already begun airing. Their official involvement in this show seems like a big deal, not only because it means the show will have their stamp of approval, but also because it could signal a shift in tone for this adaptation.

Whatever Amazon chooses to adapt, it certainly won't be hurting for material.
