  • World's first human head transplant successfully carried out

An Italian surgeon claims he has conducted the world's first head transplant on a human corpse.

"The chances that a person who has their head transplanted onto another body will be able to gain any control over, or benefit from, that grafted body are completely negligible", he added.

Surgeon Sergio Canavero has become famous for claiming to be working on the first human head transplant.

A scientific paper explaining how he did it is expected to be released in the next few days.

George Clooney to Star & Direct Limited Series CATCH 22 for Paramount Network
Catch-22 is the first acting gig for George in quite some time, as his last significant appearance was in 2016's Money Monster . So far, it has not been revealed when or how the Paramount TV and Anonymous Content project will air once it is ready.

During an 18 hour operation, experts point out that it is possible to successfully reconnect the spinal cord, severed head and nerves.

There are, as you might imagine, a number of massive obstacles to successfully completing a head transplant surgery.

Professor Canavero claimed that the procedure took place in China because "the Americans did not understand" and wouldn't fund the experiments, according to USA Today. "But the surgery was successful", The Telegraph quoted him as saying. Spiridinov's head will be frozen and a donor identified who will then have the Russian's man head transplanted onto his body. Everyone said it was impossible.

There have, however, been other kinds of recent milestones in the transplant space, including one of the most extensive face transplants ever done and the prospect of human organ donations from genetically modified pigs.

'Justice League' Rotten Tomatoes Score Revealed
Of course, the score could still change as more critics see the film over the weekend but it's probably not going to go above 50%. It did the same for A Bad Mom's Christmas , the dismal score for which they revealed in the debut episode of See It/Skip It .

And as neuroscience Dr. Dean Burnett points out in a scathing op-ed, Canavero's outsized claims about past successes may not exactly align with the realities of his accomplishments.

Arthur Caplan, director of medical ethics at New York University's Langone Medical Centre, had previously said that the bodies of head transplant patients "would end up being overwhelmed with different pathways and chemistry than they are used to and they'd go crazy".

Experts in the medical community said that a procedure like this would not be allowed in either the United States or Europe.
