Dimitrov eyes slams after ATF Finals win

  • Bulgaria rejoices in Grigor Dimitrov's ATP Finals victory

David Goffin is into the last four of the ATP Finals, to go any further he'll have to do something he's never done before: beat Roger Federer.

It wasn't the Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal matchup many fans had hoped for, but they were left satisfied as the two 26-year-olds delivered the longest final since the tournament returned to a three-set format in 2008.

Dimitrov battled to a 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory against Goffin at the O2 Arena in London, while Scherzinger ran the rule over wannabe pop stars on United Kingdom talent show The X Factor.

The sixth seed stormed to a 6-0, 6-2 win against World No.7 Goffin in only 74 minutes, joining six-time victor Roger Federer as the only two singles players who secured semifinal places on Wednesday, reports Xinhua news agency.

"I was a little bit exhausted", said Dimitrov, who beat Goffin for the loss of just two games when they met on Wednesday.

Both finalists entered new territory regardless of the result, with the title match having two qualified debutants contesting it for the first time.

The court will make a decision on Monday on cases that seek to nullify the rerun vote. The leaders were accompanied by a crowd that was chanting anti-Jubilee slogans.

"I have nothing to lose", Goffin said. It was just great to be out here and winning.

Goffin missed Wimbledon after injuring his ankle at the French Open but is enjoying a dream end to 2017 with next week's Davis Cup final in France still to come.

But Goffin is made of sterner stuff.

Dimitrov needed five championship points to get over the line as an untimely wobble invited Goffin back into the final set.

Growing in confidence, the 26-year-old broke Federer's serve again at 1-1 in the third set as the Swiss, suddenly hesitant, struck a backhand out.

That break ultimately gave Goffin the chance to serve for the set - an opportunity he grasped without conceding a point.

Goffin stayed cool and his moment of truth arrived at 5-4.

Consecutive aces gave him a 30-0 lead before he buried a nervy forehand in the net.

"It's disappointing to finish on this note". "I had to play a few matches obviously back-to-back against solid opponents. With that season, I'm extremely happy", Federer said.

Both Dimitrov and Goffin will now feature in the final match of the ATP Tour calendar in London for the first time in their careers. Sock began to offload on his seismic forehand though and roared back to snatch the opening set.

When Zverev maintained his assault with a break in the first game of the deciding set, Sock smashed the ball into the crowd and was punished with a penalty point. The mistakes were starting to creep in as Sock pushed Dimitrov hard on the attack; forcing him wide off the court and then forcing a sprint with a slice drop shot.
