Facebook to let users see if they 'liked,' followed Russian propaganda accounts

  • Facebook will help some users figure out if they saw Russian propaganda during the 2016 US presidential election

Facebook is creating a tool that will allow users to check whether or not they followed Russian propaganda accounts on Facebook or Instagram during the 2016 United States election cycle, the company announced today.

Lawmakers at congressional hearings this month suggested that Facebook might have an obligation to notify people who accessed deceptive foreign government material.

Rep. Adam Schiff, a California Democrat, called the move a "very positive step" in a statement. Committee members grilled Stretch, along with representatives from Twitter and Google, about how platforms were used for "Russian meddling" and shared a sample of ads it classified as "Russian-linked".

Facebook has announced a new policy for the end of the year: When it comes to Russian Federation, digital ads serve you. Facebook has said that as many as 150 million Facebook and Instagram users may have seen ads from the Internet Research Agency.

This is part of Facebook's transparency over the matter, it said in a recent release, explaining that "this is part of our ongoing effort to protect our platforms and the people who use them from bad actors who try to undermine our democracy". It will answer the user question, "How can I see if I've liked or followed a Facebook page or Instagram account created by the Internet Research Agency?"

Some of the Russian pages and accounts explicitly called for the election of Republican Donald Trump or denigrated his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton, and some others called for real-world political rallies - many heeded those calls by showing up at the time and places dictated by the Russian trolls.

Bomb blast kills worshippers in Adamawa mosque
He added: "Mubi is not far away from ... the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency". Mubi is in Adamawa state where Boko Haram held territory in 2014.

US lawmakers have urged Facebook to be more transparent about its role and to take immediate action to prevent election interference from happening again.

If the user did not follow any accounts linked to the IRA, no results will appear on the list even if they came across such content in their newsfeed by way of their friends "liking" these posts.

However, not all of those people will be able to use the tool announced by Facebook Wednesday.

Trump declares North Korea a state sponsor of terror
He pointed out that North Korea was already experiencing the shortage of fuel and its revenues were down. North Korea was removed from the list by President George W.

USA lawmakers earlier this month released a batch of Facebook ads they say were purchased by the company in a surreptitious effort to stir up emotions on sensitive social issues like gun control, race relations, immigration, and religion.
