Gunmen attack Peshawar's University of Agriculture

At least nine people including five students were killed in the Pakistani city of Peshawar on Friday when militants stormed an agriculture training centre.

A heavy contingent of police, Frontier Constabulary (FC) and army surrounded the campus before launching the operation.

The area was being surveyed by military helicopters as two explosions were heard from inside the building.

According to military's public affairs wing, ISPR, all the four attackers have been killed in the security forces operation.

A report in Dawn said three burqa-clad men entered the directorate and started firing.

The area where the incident occurred is a hub for educational institutions in the city including the University of Peshawar.

"These terrorists have no religion as they attacked on a day which is very sacred and the nation was celebrating it", he said.

Mohammad Khorasani, a spokesman for the militant organisation, said they had targeted a safe house of the military's Inter-Services Intelligence agency.

"We took shelter inside the bedroom and were begging the injured student not to make any sound as the terrorists might hear it and kill us".

The militants also issued photos of the attackers, who they said were from nearby Swat Valley, singing with the movement's fugitive leader, Mullah Fazlullah, before their mission.

A security guard and five students are among the dead, the hospital that received the bodies said.

The Pakistani Taliban have claimed a series of high-profile attacks in the country in recent years, the deadliest being the Peshawar school massacre that left 151 people dead, including 134 children.

The Taliban are fighting to topple the government and install a strict interpretation of Islamic law.
