An Army jawan and two terrorists, including a Pakistani, were killed in an encounter in south Kashmir's Kulgam district on Monday afternoon.

An army spokesman said the militants attacked an army convoy between Bonigam and Bhadragund area around 12:40 p.m.

"When the militants were challenged, they fired at the security forces triggering a gunfight which continued for almost four hours, two militants have been killed, but so far, only one slain militant's body has been recovered who was a local", police said.

Soon after the attack, the Army cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to nab the assailants, who had taken shelter in a nearby house.

He said another soldier was injured in the firefight. "The injured was rushed to a hospital", they said.

Locals said they heard heavy gunfire and sound of blasts. The hiding militants opened fire on a search party that tried to zeroed in on the concrete structure. The security forces fired tear-smoke shells and pellets to disperse them.
