  • Former US marine charged over Christmas terrorism plot

The suspect, Everitt Aaron Jameson, 26, is accused of providing "material support or resources to a foreign terrorist organization" between October 24 and December 20, and expressing his willingness to "do anything for 'the cause, '" according to an affidavit filed by FBI Special Agent Christopher McKinney.

CBS San Francisco reports, authorities say in court documents that Jameson told an undercover Federal Bureau of Investigation agent that Christmas would be "perfect" for a terrorist attack at San Francisco's Pier 39.

Jameson also allegedly told another Federal Bureau of Investigation agent he was "ready to die" and did not have an escape plan for the attack.

They say Mr Jameson came to their attention in September after expressing "radical jihadi beliefs" and support of so-called Islamic State through social media use. Law enforcement officials say the FBI began investigating him in September, after a tipster reported that Jameson was making pro-jihadi comments in a Facebook posting.

Cuban leader Raul Castro is stepping down in April
Initially, Feb. 24 was the date set for when the National Assembly would meet and pick the country's next president. Cuban first vice president Miguel Diaz-Canel has been seen as a potential candidate.

In statements to undercover informants, Jameson outlined a plan that would have involved running civilians down with his truck, deploying improvised explosives, and using his skills as a Marine sharpshooter to increase the body count.

In November, Jameson filled out a "Franchise Tow Truck Driving Application" with the Modesto Police Department, prosecutors said.

Jameson allegedly told the agents that he needed ammunition, powder, tubing and nails.

He also voiced support for the Halloween Day truck attack in NY which killed eight people.

Colder Friday, rain and snow chances
The temp will swing wildly from the low to mid 20s Friday , to near 40° Saturday , and then falling into early next week. Another cold front comes through on Friday , bringing another chance of heavy rain, mainly in the afternoon and evening.

Mr Jameson attended basic recruitment training for the US Marine Corps in 2009, but was reportedly discharged for not disclosing details of his asthma.

Jameson told the informant that he was a soldier in the "Kuffar army" before he reverted and that he was trained in combat and things of war.

The suspect outlined to undercover agents how he wanted to use explosives to target crowds at the pier between December 18 and 25 because "Christmas was the ideal day to commit the attack".

Investigators said he asked for help in obtaining a semiautomatic rifle and materials to make a bomb and thought Christmas would be a good time to attack. The FBI searched Jameson's home in Modesto on Wednesday, finding guns, explosives, and a signed note taking credit for an attack. Law enforcement officials said those materials were never provided.
