In a lawsuit filed Thursday, Corfman requested a declaratory judgement of defamation, a public apology from Moore, and a court-enforced ban that would prevent him or the campaign from attacking her in the future. She is asking that Moore pay court costs but is not seeking additional compensation.

"The decision to sue Mr. Moore and his campaign committee was hard, but they need to be held responsible for their actions", Corfman said in a written statement to AL.com.

Brett Doster, a spokesman for Moore, responded to the suit by telling the Post, "We look forward to transparently discussing these matters in a court of law".

Moore repeatedly denied sexual misconduct allegations made by several women, and at one point blamed gays, lesbians, socialists, and liberals for what he called "false and malicious" claims.

Corfman says she was 14 when Moore, then a prosecutor in his 30s, touched her during an encounter.

Other accusers described a host of behavior by Moore, ranging from unwanted attention to groping. "Mr. Moore sexually abused me when I was only 14 years old".

Following his denial, far-right outlet Breitbart and other Moore supporters came to the candidate's defense and attempted to disprove Corfman's account of Moore's behavior.

She says after coming forward during Moore's 2016 Senate campaign, Moore denied the allegation and "defamed" her.

She issued a statement saying the suit allows her "to do what I could not do as a 14-year-old - hold Mr. Moore and those who enable him accountable", according to the Post.

The lawsuit spells out a number of instances where Moore or his campaign surrogates denied her claims and attacked her character and motives. Ms. Corfman resisted Mr. Moore and asked him to take her home.

The accusations drew world attention to the December 12 Alabama Senate election.

The allegations by Corfman, first reported November 9 by The Washington Post, were the centerpiece of a scandal that plagued Moore's campaign over the final month, which ended with a narrow loss to Democrat Doug Jones.
