'Text bomb' bug slows down Apple's iPhones and Macs

The chaiOS "text bomb" was discovered earlier this week by software developer Abraham Masri. Right now, the bug does not look to be anything more than another way to prank Apple users.

GitHub banned Masri's account shortly after he uploaded the malicious code to his publicly-accessible page, which causes the device to crash by overwhelming it with hundreds of thousands of webpage metadata characters in iMessage's webpage link preview feature. Masri revealed in a Twitter post that the flaw, which he named ChaiOS bug, could freeze your iPhone.

According to the claims, the iOS devices including Mac crash immediately and forced to restart whenever the link is sent to anyone.

The map in question is an interesting one that's called "Blizzard World" and has been created to resemble a theme park of sorts. These new items will be available in the regular Loot Boxes and will be available as unlocks in the Hero Gallery as well.

TrustedReviews suggests if users have received the link, quit the Messages app, delete the entire conversation thread using either the iPhone, iMac or MacBook.

It was seen that the chaiOS bug has the ability to crash the Messages app on iPhones. "My main objective was to reach out to Apple and say, 'Hey, you've been ignoring my bug reports.' I always report the bug before releasing something", the developer said.

Whilst the link is said not to cause any permanent damage the iOS devices, it is advised to not open link, as well as to forward on the message.

Performance updates from Intel chip fix
Another test that replicated online transactions at a stock brokerage disclosed a 4 percent slowdown . Intel has also followed up its initial desktop performance metrics with benchmarks for data center .

Meanwhile Buzzfeed reports that the text bomb affects all Apple devices running iOS 10 up to iOS iOS 11.2.5 beta.

"Nasty. But, thankfully, more of a nuisance than something that will lead to data being stolen from your computer or a malicious hacker being able to access your files".

Apple confirmed a fix is coming in a software update next week. At that point, Apple had issued a fix for the bug.
