  • US managed to betray both Turks and Kurds

On the third day of an offensive to drive out Kurdish forces, Turkish armed forces on Monday seized several villages in Afrin, located in north-western Syria.

USA troops have been in Syria, along with other forces, in a bid to fight #ISIS groups that have settled into Syria, taking advantage of the disarray.

The Turkish assault on Afrin opens a new front in a war in which world powers have supported rival sides, while hundreds of thousands of people have died and more than 11 million have been driven from their homes.

The Kurdish force has called Turkey's offensive a "flagrant hostility" to all Syrians, and blamed Russian Federation for the attack. Tillerson was explicit about that, saying that stability in Syria "requires post-Assad leadership" and that the United States will discourage every other nation from having any economic relationship with war-torn Syria until Assad has gone.

During a meeting with Barzani, Ali Shamkhani, the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, addressed attacks made by Kurdish forces against Iranian border guards.

But Erdogan expressed impatience with United States demands to set a clear timetable, saying the campaign would be over "when the target is achieved".

Her reward is a match against Belgium's Elise Mertens, who beat struggling Alize Cornet of France in two tough sets 7-5, 6-4. Nadal was out in front early with a set and a break but the diminutive Argentine kept pushing and pushing the action.

"There's no stepping back from Afrin", he said in a speech in Ankara.

Ankara fears increased US -backing for the group will bolster the ability of Syrian Kurds to traverse the border to support their fellow Kurds inside.

The White House warned that the campaign risked exacerbating a humanitarian crisis and disrupting what had been a stable area.

But Ankara has denied inflicting civilian casualties, with Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu accusing the YPG of sending out "nonsense propaganda and baseless lies".

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said Washington had proposed working with Turkey and forces on the ground in Afrin to "see how we can stabilise this situation and meet Turkey's legitimate concerns for their security".

While Washington wants to preserve its relationship with Turkey.it also has ties to Kurdish and other forces forces targeted by Turkey.

In 2013, the government shut down after Republicans insisted any government funding bill include provisions defunding Obamacare. Democrats derided their Republican counterparts when they shut down the government during the Obama administration in 2013 .

"Turkey was candid", Mattis told reporters. Damascus has responded, telling Turkey it has no business on Syrian territory and threatened to shoot down any Turkish planes that violate its air space.

But Russia does not appear to be acting to prevent it, and has pulled its own troops out of the Afrin area.

Ankara believes the YPG is an extension of the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK, which has been fighting for Kurdish independence from Turkey for three decades in its southeast.

If only! But until then, the news that the U.S.is indeed supporting a fearless Kurdish force in its ongoing fight against terror is an encouraging development.

YPG spokesman Nouri Mahmoud, speaking to Reuters on the sidelines of the news conference, said: "Our forces prepared themselves and were betting on an attack by the current authority in Turkey".
