'Govt Committed to Empowerment and not Appeasement', Says President Kovind in Parliament

  • Budget Session 2018: Hope Triple Talaq Bill will pass soon says, President Kovind

President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday expressed the hope that the Triple Talaq Bill would be passed by Parliament during the Budget session. "My Government started Start Up India, Stand Up India, Skill India and Pradhanmantri Mudra Yojana to help the youth of the country to realise their dreams and make them self employed".

As many as 28 bills are expected to be tabled in the Lok Sabha this session, while 39 bills are listed for the Rajya Sabha.

The President appreciated the efforts to expand passport services and said: "The Ministry of External Affairs, in collaboration with Department of Posts, has embarked upon a comprehensive programme for expansion of Passport services in the country".

Syria opposition to boycott Russian peace talks
The Syrian National Dialogue Congress is due to take place in the Russian Black Sea resort city of Sochi on January 29-30. The meeting comes as part of a new round of the intra-Syrian dialogue in the context of the Geneva political process.

Kovind said all political parties need to arrive at a consensus about the consequences of having simultaneous elections, on the economy and development. "Frequent elections not only impose burden on human resources but also impede development process due to promulgation of the model code of conduct", he said. He said, "In the past one year, registration of about 350,000 suspicious companies have been cancelled".

Speaking about the Centre's target of providing housing to poor and homeless person by 2022, President Kovind said NDA government was keen on providing housing facility to those who are poor. "At present, Digital Payments are being carried out in more than 400 schemes of the Government", he added. "Till now, more than Rs 57,000 crore have been prevented from going into wrong hands", he said. "Jammu and Kashmir Police, defence and paramilitary forces are working together to fight terrorism in J&K", he said.

The President said that the country's fight against corruption is continuing. He said the bill will ensure respect to all women.

The President also said India has been the first responder in natural disasters and humanitarian crisis in the sub-continent.
