At least 11 soldiers have died and 16 are wounded after insurgents attacked an army unit guarding a military academy in the Afghan capital Kabul.

Four militants were killed, a defence ministry spokesman told the BBC.

Votel, Commander of United States Central Command, has said that the recent attacks by militants in Afghanistan will not impact the USA commitment to Afghanistan.

At least 103 people were killed and 235 wounded in Saturday's lunchtime attack claimed by the Taliban, which caused panic in the war-torn capital and overwhelmed its hospitals.

The Taliban claimed the ambulance attack, as well as an attack a week earlier in which militants stormed a hilltop hotel in Kabul, the Intercontinental, killing 22 people, including 14 foreigners, and setting off a 13-hour battle with security forces.

West Brom close in on Daniel Sturridge loan from Liverpool
A late approach from Newcastle was on the table but it would appear that West Brom have been successful in securing his services. United were understood to be prepared to pay a loan fee of around £1.5million and also cover his £120,000-a-week wages.

Four AK-47 assault rifles, one suicide vest and one rocket-launcher were seized, he said.

Trump condemned the Saturday attack, saying it "renews our resolve and that of our Afghan partners".

Soon after the attack, Afghan diplomat Majeed Qarar on Twitter alleged that equipment used by the Kabul attackers was actually supplied by the Pakistan Army to a terrorist organisation operating in Kashmir and Afghanistan.

On Saturday, a blast hit the diplomatic quarter of Kabul, where the embassies of other countries and many government buildings are located.

It said the government and the people of Pakistan conveyed solidarity and support to the government and people of Afghanistan over the attack.

Rescuers forced to make tragic choice on 'killer mountain'
All five living climbers are expected to be evacuated by helicopter to the town of Skardu later on Sunday if weather permits. Masha Gordon, a Russian-born British businesswoman, set up a crowdfunding webpage to support the rescue efforts.

He says that Pakistan has shown previously that when they are criticised internationally it has reacted by means of the Taliban.

"This comes in response to the aggressive strategy followed by the Afghan government as well as the U.S. government, which slapped sanctions on six members of Taliban and the Haqqani Network", Fahimi said.

There are now 14,000 US soldiers in Afghanistan.

The Taliban has claimed responsibility for each of the attacks but their involvement has yet to be independently confirmed, the BBC reported. "Bombing and shooting people who are working for no other reason than to help improve the lives of young Afghans is a cowardly and despicable act".

The Taliban has been fighting an insurgency based on its aims to re-establish an Islamic emirate in Afghanistan.

Brady returns to full practice, Gronk not ready yet
When asked about Gronkowski's status Wednesday, coach Bill Belichick would not detail the extent of his tight end's injury. With the Super Bowl eight days away, this is an encouraging sign for Gronkowski and the entire New England offense.

However, the Taliban have dismissed any suggestion that they have been weakened by the USA approach and say they will only agree to talks when global forces leave Afghanistan.
