The decision imposes sanctions on Haniyeh and another Gaza-based terrorist organization that freeze their assets within the USA and prevent United States citizens from conducting business with the newly designated terrorists.

Hamas senior political leader Ismail Haniyeh was designated as a global terrorist by the United States on January 31.

Islamic Hamas movement slammed on Wednesday the USA decision to list Hamas chief Ismail Haneya among the world's terrorists.

A thank you to Alex Smith
But that was not the case Monday on the Dan Patrick Show , when Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith joined the guys in the studio. It may have taken Alex Smith this long to finally have a break out year but in 2017 he looked like the real deal.

It quoted Secretary of State Rex Tillerson as saying the designations "target key terrorist groups and leaders - including two sponsored and directed by Iran - who are threatening the stability of the Middle East, undermining the peace process, and attacking our allies Egypt and Israel".

Haniyeh is described in the statement as "the leader and President of the Political Bureau of Hamas" with close links to "Hamas' military wing and has been a proponent of armed struggle, including against civilians".

It added that Hamas has been responsible for an estimated 17 American lives killed in terrorist attacks.

The State Department's terrorism designations also targeted three other small organizations, including Harakat al-Sabireen Nasran li Palestine (the Movement of the Patient Ones Supporting Palestine) or HESN, which is Gaza-based.

For his part, Khaled Qadoumi expressed gratitude to Iran for supporting Palestine and for its stances against the USA administration's move to recognize the city of al-Quds (Jerusalem) as the capital of Israel.

"It is obvious that this animosity from the USA administration towards the Palestinians is unprecedented - with its unconditional support of Israel and its decision surrounding Jerusalem, and cutting its funding to the United Nations refugee agency [UNRWA]", said Hamad.

He added that Tehran gives Palestinian militant groups "potentially up to $100 million annually".

Relations between Washington and the Palestinians have been severely strained since US President Donald Trump broke with decades of policy in December to name Jerusalem as Israel's capital. Washington says the new embassy will open in Jerusalem in 2019.
