Kashmir shuts on fifth anniversary of Guru hanging, restrictions in Srinagar

In occupied Kashmir, the Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (DFP), today, organized a function at Doabgah in Sopore, the ancestral home of Shaheed Muhammad Afzal Guru to express solidarity with the family and to remember Afzal Guru and Muhammad Maqbool Butt on their martyrdom anniversaries.

Guru was hanged in Delhi's Tihar Prison on February 9, 2013 at the age of 43 after an Indian court convicted him of involvement in a 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament in New Delhi. The cops fired tear smoke shells and resorted to baton charge to disperse the protestors. However, scarce movement of private vehicles was witnessed in uptown areas.

According to reports large number of contingent of police and paramilitary forces were deployment across town to avert any law and order problem.

Meanwhile, the statement said that memorandum by JRL was read out and unanimously adopted by people at various Masajids and other religious places during Friday prayers. All shops and business establishments remained closed while traffic was off the roads.
