Ridgefield native Tucker West finished 26th overall in the luge men's singles event at the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Wearing bib No. 13, the 29-year-old Mazdzer won a silver medal in men's luge at a frigid (12ºF) Alpensia Sliding Centre Sunday night.

It is Team USA's first ever men's singles Olympic luge medal.

The luge event is four runs, and after the first two, Mazdzer was fourth, just 0.001 seconds behind Roman Repilov of Russian Federation.

That left only the final run, and Mazdzer did exactly what he needed to do to snare the historic medal for the United States.

David Gleirscher of Austria took gold and Johannes Ludwig of Germany took home bronze.

Single's luge consists of four timed runs on a sled down a narrow, serpentine track.

Mazdzer competed in the 2014 Sochi Games and the 2010 Vancouver Games but did not win a medal. He completed the four runs with a cumulative time of 3 minutes, 10.702 seconds, edging out Mazdzer by 0.026. But it was only with his second and third runs - which he finished second and first, respectively - that Mazdzer climbed the leader board.

Noticeably absent from the medal ceremony: Felix Loch, the German powerhouse who won gold at the past two Winter Games.

Loch had won gold in the last two Olympics in men's singles.

It's the first time the USA has medaled in the event since it became an Olympic sport in 1964.

Chris Mazdzer slides during the men's singles luge at the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018 on February 11, 2018 in PyeongChang, South Korea.

He was headed for a third straight gold medal entering his fourth and final run in the men's singles luge after scores that ranked him second, first, and second (respectively) on his first three runs.
