Google said ARCore 1.0 includes functionality improvements and better support in order to make developing Android AR apps faster and easier.

Just a couple days before the world's biggest smartphone convention kicks off in Barcelona, Google is rolling out updates for a number of its most interesting Android features.

With today's announcement that Google's ARCore augmented reality SDK has emerged from preview in version 1.0, developers can now use it to create augmented reality apps for distribution through the Play Store.

This demo version will be shown at Mobile World Congress, says Google.

Meanwhile, Google Lens, a feature that is now available Google Pixel devices and uses computer vision to quickly recognize objects, businesses, and other things around you, is said to release for both Google Assistant and Google Photos in the next few weeks.

"Through this collaboration, we've built a Lens experience that is totally immersive and unique."

There are already a handful of applications using ARCore, including a portal to FC Barcelona's Camp Nou stadium created by Snapchat, Sotheby's International Realty interior visualization tool, and an app that puts Porsche's Mission E concept auto in users' driveways.

Google is hoping to bring an augmented reality revolution to Android devices, and technologies like ARCore and Lens are the stepping stones to that achievement.
