Central AL Forecast: Severe Weather Threat Over for Sunday

26 February, 2018, 09:20 | Author: Gary Shelton
  • Strong To Severe Storms Tonight

Some storms this afternoon have already been strong to severe with gusty winds and heavy rain being the biggest concern.

That front retreats to the north as a warm front Tuesday afternoon triggering scattered t-showers and bringing back the warmer temperatures. Shower and storm activity will continue through Sunday morning and potentially into early afternoon for Eastern Kentucky. A stronger center of low pressure has developed along that stationary front, and has transformed it into an associated warm and cold front. Due to the timing of the front I think its likely much of extreme south and southeast Alabama will experience highs in the mid to upper 70s. Then our next round of heavy rain moves in by Wednesday morning. On the low end we could see some central Alabama locations like Alexander City and Clanton with highs near 60. We could see anywhere from a half an inch to an inch of rain by the time you wake up tomorrow. Initially, this system is expected to bring rain as high temperatures will remain mild.

Showers and t-storms will increase in coverage and intensity Sunday night into early Monday morning. "Rain totals over the last week have been around 4 to 6" across the Ozarks.

Tuesday. Partly cloudy. Highs in the upper 60s. Temperatures will be close to the seasonal averages for a change.
