  • Delta Might End All 'Politically Divisive' Group Discounts

Delta Air Lines says it will look into ending all its discounts with groups that appear to be "politically divisive".

Delta attempted to assuage the political backlash, stating the decision to end the relationship with the NRA was created to stay above the fray in the recent fight over gun control following the mass shooting at a high school in Florida.

Delta spokesman Michael Thomas said that just 13 members used the discount to travel to the group's annual meeting in Dallas, The Washington Post reported.

Delta's decision triggered a showdown with pro-gun lawmakers in Georgia, where the Atlanta-based airline is one of the largest employers with 33,000 employees statewide.

Lawmakers have said the bill that the Governor signed into law Friday that did not include the jet fuel tax break, is the largest income tax cut in state history.

GOP lawmakers amended a sweeping tax bill to eliminate a fuel-tax exemption worth at least an estimated $38 million to Delta and other airlines.

Will 'take necessary measures' if U.S. harms country's economic interests: China
The two nations agree to continue dialogue in Beijing , Zhang Yesui said at a briefing, without giving a timetable or names of officials to attend.

Despite that, the Delta memo says the company will keep its headquarters in Atlanta. Deal's chief of staff Chris Riley confer in the Senate before the Senate went into recess and the Rules Committee stripped the Delta tax cut from legislation.

"He is a great friend to Delta", Bastian said.

"Corporations can not attack conservatives and expect us not to fight back", he tweeted. The House - which had passed an earlier version with the jet fuel exemption intact before the Delta-NRA controversy erupted - followed with a 135-24 vote.

"If Delta is looking for a state that knows how to treat a business right, then Kansas is the flawless place particularly Wichita", explained Whipple.

In a memo to employees Friday, Bastian said Delta's intent was to remain neutral, after the firearms group offered controversial suggestions about school shootings, such as arming teachers.

Bastian concluded by saying that he had "tremendous respect and admiration" for Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal, whom he claimed was "troubled" by the legislature's actions.

The battle between Delta and the state of Georgia is being waged in the wake of a wave of activism following a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Florida in March of 2018.

This week, you have likely seen Delta in coverage of the national debate over gun control and security in US schools.

He added: "Our decision was not made for economic gain and our values are not for sale".

"Unfortunately, we're looking at political gamesmanship, and trying to send ultraconservative messages for the Republican primary", said Senator Steve Henson, the minority leader, according to The New York Times.

"We can not continue to allow large companies to treat conservatives differently than other customers, employees and partners", Cagle wrote in an opinion piece published by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Bastian attributed its new stance on the NRA to the group's "controversial statements" after a gunman killed 17 students and educators at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Fla., on February 14.
